Holland Wharf Girls Home, Narsapur.
Holland Wharf Girls’ Hostel is situated on the banks of the Godavari River, which runs into the Bay of Bengal, just 6 miles from Narsapur. The hostel was started by Joy Tilsley, a 5th generation missionary in this area. Her great – great grandparents were the pioneer missionaries in 1836. There were 24 girls at the commencement in June 1955. For 29 years the hostel was in rented property. Then it moved across the road to this mission property and Old Dutch building. The Lord undertook and several new buildings were constructed and so now there are dining halls, prayer hall, dormitories, study rooms, store rooms, box rooms, bathrooms, office and Ruby lodge which houses our industrial school where tailoring and embroidery are taught. We also have a couple of play grounds with courts, swings, see-saws, slide, merry-go-round, and a fish tank, a garden, and many coconut trees.
Now there are 330 girls in the hostel. These girls are from Primary schooling to Graduation. Some girls may be sent for other courses like nursing and teaching. The children receive a balanced diet, uniforms, books, school and college fees, private tuition fees, medical attention, Salaries, and maintenance are also covered by sponsorship. Every year an annual medical check-up is conducted. Our motto is “HE IS ABLE” and we have proved it many times.
